The History Of The American Pit Bull Terrier
The American Pit Bull Terrier is also known as Pit Bull Terrier, American Pit Bull, Yankee Terrier and the APBT. They originated in United States during the 1800's.

This breeds ancestors were brought into the United States in the mid 1800's by Irish immigrants . It was a descendant of the English "Bull Terrier," which was a cross of the English Bulldog. The original English Bulldog was a straight limbed fighting dog - a far cry from the modern breed which has been much changed over the years by the demands of the show ring.

Staffordshire Bull Terriers have basically the same origin as the American Pit Bull Terrier and the Boston Terrier is also closely related. They were all bred specifically for dog fighting. This aggression has largely been bred out of the best lines of these breeds.
